Community

We believe in being purpose-led. This means acknowledging our moral obligation to engage with societal issues that impact our surrounding communities. Fundamentally our view is that businesses across the agricultural value chain can play an important role in job creation, skills development and community upliftment in rural communities.

In many cases, the agricultural sector is already doing so. It is our aim to take these often untold stories to a broader audience by showcasing the silent heroes that are making a positive difference across rural South Africa and beyond.

Contribution

Koko & Tree’s contribution to making a difference in rural communities is embodied by our close affiliation with Ukuthunga, a self-sustaining non-profit organisation (NPO) that creates employment and provides skills development for rural women in Mpumalanga, South Africa.

Ukuthunga empowers unemployed women from rural communities to produce individually crafted crocheted products. Since its inception in 2016, the original “queens of crochet” team of five has grown to 60 women whose unique handcrafted pieces have been exported as far afield as Australia, Europe and the United States.
